This lesson explores the concept of insecurities, with a specific focus on Netflix’s series Adolescence, written by Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne. Designed to be delivered over one or two lessons, this comprehensive and ready-to-use PowerPoint encourages students to critically think about insecurities, the factors that contribute to them, and both healthy and unhealthy ways to cope.

 

The lesson includes: 

 

  • Introduction: What is an insecurity?
  • Group Task: Students explore how factors (e.g. family, relationships, social media, etc.) contribute to insecurities and unhealthy behaviours.

  • Scenarios: Students analyse different scenario, considering how insecurities  can lead to unhealthy behaviours.

  • Adolescence Focus: Students examine Jamie Miller’s insecurities in Adolescence and how they influenced his harmful actions.

  • Managing Insecurities: Discussion on healthy ways to cope with insecurities.

  • Weekly Check in: Weekly slide to encourage ongoing reflection on insecurities and personal growth.
