This assembly explores how Black history is an essential part of Britain’s story, not a separate chapter.

Through real historical figures and timelines, including Beachy Head Lady, John Blanke, Sarah Forbes Bonetta and Mary Seacole, it challenges the idea that Black history begins with the Transatlantic slave trade.

These examples reveal a much longer and richer history that is often overlooked. The assembly ends by exploring why learning about Black history matters today, using current facts and statistics and highlighting the benefits of understanding different cultures, from challenging stereotypes to building a more inclusive society.
